Dancing at the Edge of the New
Dancing with Life in Intense Times
Are you feeling it too? That hum beneath the chaos, the whisper in your bones, the ache in your heart that says: We are at the edge of something.
A threshold. A turning point. A crossroad.
You are not alone.
Many of us are waking up from the trance of distraction—tired of doomscrolling, disillusioned with the noise, disheartened by division.
And yet… something deeper is stirring. A longing. A call. A remembering.
Joanna Macy has been calling the time of ecological crisis The Great Turning. (And nowadays we have a poly-crisis with wars, climate change, polarizing politics etc…).
And so we have to turn towards transformation, of unraveling and reweaving.
A time to turn toward what matters. Becoming aware of what we love, what we value, and also what we bring to the table… for the wellbeing of all beings and the planet.
A time to recalibrate how we act, relate, create and co-create. Because we have to do this together.
In Core Connexion, we dance this turning.
We turn inward to listen.
We turn toward one another in embodied presence and listen.
We turn to the Earth and remember our belonging.
We turn toward the future, not with fear, but with fierce love and hope.
This turning is not just global. It is deeply personal.
It asks each of us:
What do you love too much to lose?
What values will you root into?
What is your unique medicine for these times?
Through movement, we remember our capacity to respond—creatively, compassionately, courageously.
We become part of the great turning—not as spectators, but as participants.
Not by fixing everything, but by dancing what is ours to dance.
This is the invitation:
To move from numbness into aliveness.
From overwhelm into presence.
From fragmentation into wholeness.
One breath at a time.
One step at a time.
One sacred turn at a time.
Week 1: When the Old Ways No Longer Hold
We live in intense times. The world around us is shifting quickly, and the structures we’ve relied on—whether societal, relational, or personal—can suddenly feel unstable. There are moments in life when the old ways no longer hold. When what once felt safe does not work anymore, or even becomes constricting. And often, it is not our thinking mind that speaks first, but our body.
You may notice it as a subtle tightness in the chest, a flutter in the belly, a restless energy in the legs. A sense that something deeper is stirring. These are the body’s whispers that change is here. They are not problems to solve, but invitations to listen.
In Core Connexion, we begin by returning to the body’s wisdom. Before we seek answers, we pause. We breathe. We feel. We enter movement not to perform, but to discover. To explore what is shifting within us.
When the old patterns fall away, it can feel like standing on unfamiliar ground. But in Core Connexion, we learn that the ground is still there—beneath our feet, beneath our breath, beneath our awareness. Through breath and sensation, we reconnect to the inner resources that have always been with us.
We begin to trust the messages of our body. The tremble that says “this is too much.” The tears that say “this needs to be honored.” The stillness that says “wait.” The desire to move that says “something new is ready to emerge.”
Somatic Practice
Warm up to your favorite music. Then pause, stand or sit comfortably. Bring awareness to your body. The front, the back, the sides, top and bottom… the inner and the outer…breath and skin.
Notice any areas that feel tight, heavy, or restless.
Ask yourself: “Where in my body do I feel movement/ or something new/ or change, stirring?” Place your hand on that area. Breathe into it. Don’t let it move yet. Just sense the impulse for 10 seconds. Then let that movement arise. Notice the threshold between being still and starting to move… Then follow the movement. What is your body asking for right now?
Here is a Core Connexion Cycle for you to dance with in depth…
Closing Reflection
Thresholds can be disorienting, but they are also sacred. They mark the space between what was and what is becoming. Through the practice of Core Connexion, we learn to meet these spaces not with fear, but with curiosity and care. We learn to dance with life, even when the steps are uncertain.
Next time, we’ll explore what it means to listen below the surface—to hear the body’s quiet messages and begin moving from within.
